Description

Crispy, colorful, sweet, and tangy — this quick homemade relish adds a bold flavor boost to burgers, sandwiches, salads, and more!


Ingredients

  • 4 cups mixed bell peppers, thinly sliced

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced

  • 1 cup white vinegar

  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon mustard seeds

  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pickling Liquid:
    In a large saucepan, combine white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, sugar, mustard seeds, celery seeds, turmeric, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
    Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves.

  2. Cook the Vegetables:
    Add sliced peppers and onions. Stir to coat.
    Simmer for 10–15 minutes until slightly softened but still crisp.

  3. Cool and Store:
    Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
    Transfer to sterilized jars. Seal tightly and refrigerate at least 24 hours before serving.
    Keeps in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
